Engineering Tribute: Ada Lovelace

October 13, 2020

In celebration of Ada Lovelace Day and the achievements of women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), today we highlight none other than --- you guessed it --- Ada Lovelace!

The Countess of Lovelace, more commonly known by her given name Ada, was an English born mathematician and writer. Armed with an incredible imagination and mechanical ingenuity, she is primarily known for her work on the world’s first computer program.

Lovelace was brilliant to say the least, and was able to theorize a general computer system in 1842 that could crush numbers, make music, draw, and perform many actions we take for granted today. Ada Lovelace was passionate about what she did, and never took days off even when she fell ill. Her unrelenting work ethic despite the challenges she faced as a woman in the 1800’s make her an excellent role model for youth today, and someone worth studying.

Happy Ada Lovelace Day everyone!
